Extraction Site Preservation
Following tooth extraction, the bone at the extraction site begins to resorb (shrink). Bone resorption can make placing tooth replacements, such as dental implants, more difficult or even impossible. In addition, shrinkage in the bone can cause cosmetic consequences, such as a “sunken” appearance of the bone and gum tissue. To prevent these consequences, our skilled dentist may recommend extraction site preservation. Extraction site preservation ensures that the bone is maintained to allow for successful placement of dental implants or other tooth replacements, as well as enhancing the appearance of your smile. We may recommend a bone graft to ensure that the bone does not resorb. Dr. Bader will help you determine which type of bone graft or other extraction site preservation options are right for your individual dental needs. We welcome you to call or visit our dental office in Chicago, Illinois to learn more about extraction site preservation and to schedule your visit at Dental Impressions.
